PONDA: As the monsoon season coming to an end, the Ponda locals, who have been facing hardship for the long time, have started alerting the government about the repairs and hot-mixing of the town and surrounding villages roads that are damaged and become bumpy due to sewerage network lines digging work.
The roads condition has turned worst during the rainy season, due to which people are suffering more. The roads dug for the sewerage chambers are the worst affected at Upper Bazaar, Ponda town, Khadpaband and Varkhandem. Besides, the roads in surrounding Curti and Kavlem Panchayats jurisdiction that were dug also need repairs and hot-mixing.
Former chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council Bhanudas Naik said, “No doubt the roads are dug for the sewerage network which is for the benefit of people but have deteriorated over the years with the rains. The vehicle drivers are facing health problems such as back pain while travelling on these rough roads.”
He said, “The roads dug for the sewerage are the worst affected and need urgent repairs and hot-mixing so that the people get relief while driving their vehicles on these roads.”
“At many places the roads are bumpy as the sewerage chambers are covered with patchwork of rough cement which makes it difficult to drive,” he added.
Naik requested the Chief Minister and Ponda MLA to urgently look into the matter so that the roads are repaired immediately.
When asked about the pathetic condition of roads in Ponda town, Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude said, “I am aware of the roads condition and has directed the PWD Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer to conduct the repairs and thereafter, when the rainy season ends, to hot-mix these roads.”
