Vasco has always been seen as green town with its natural beauty and beaches around. The Port Town is always in news due to its busy nature as it has the infrastructure of Airport and Port facility. However, there are some areas neglected on garbage and cleanliness issues. There was beach cleaning drive when there was Swatch Bharat Abhiyan launched in the country. Though, today there is door-to-door collection facility by the municipality, the garbage collection in some areas has not been curtailed.
The Mangor Hill in Vasco located at BSNL Exchange needs attention for garbage collection. Though, early morning it’s collected by the municipal van, the area looks dirty whole day.

The said garbage is thrown by roadside and on the road by the residents from Chota Mangor and nearby areas. The garbage is thrown in open area and is next to fruit seller, horticulture kiosk of Government of Goa. The garbage is collected by way of door-to-door collection from the apartments, but the garbage is thrown by locals residing in recently declared containment zone due to COVID-19 pandemic.
If one looks at the scene of garbage it is worse than the COVID-19 pandemic. There are other diseases which can spike due to garbage and unhygienic situation. It’s equally important to take care of garbage and sewage leakage in the said areas which is a regular phenomenon in every two months.
The local MLA or councillor should look into the matter and see that garbage and sewage issues are cleared and keep the Port Town clean. Swatch Bharat Abhiyan has been implemented in every corners of the State and needs attention in few areas.
After Coronavirus, other areas of cleanliness is been neglected as the need of the hour was to tackle COVID-19 situation. Today, the need of the hour is also cleanliness and garbage free roads in the Port Town.
