It appears that all the government departments are just hell bent on finishing Goa and destroying its greenery and natural resources. Development is just an excuse but officers sitting in AC cabins pass sweeping orders unmindful of the consequences and cause irreparable damage to nature.
From all these developments, it appears that nature has come to become as the number one enemy of this irresponsible, insensitive government. Over the weekend there have been mass pruning of fruit bearing trees in Assagao and some small trees have been completely chopped off from the roots and all of these have been fruit bearing trees like jambhul, mango, jackfruit, etc.
These trees have been pruned or completely chopped off on the pretext that they were above an 11 KV line which actually is serving a major commercial project site. The power department has first and foremost faltered by not issuing a shutdown notice for consumers in Assagao secondly post monsoon is not a time for pruning of trees. It appears that officers who pass such orders have either no love for nature or lack some basic common sense. The best time for pruning of trees whether they touch HT or LT lines is before the monsoons so that in the monsoons they can get new shoots.
I wonder if the power dept workers are so busy before monsoons that the pre monsoon works are done post monsoon. Now there are no rains, no strong winds for tree branches to touch the lines or cause a short circuit and above all this is the flowering season for fruit bearing trees and at this time no pruning atleast of fruit bearing trees should be done. Over and above now works are going on to do underground cabling for the 11 KV lines in Assagao , in view of all this it is just ridiculous and completely unexpected that sensible power dept officials pass orders for pruning of trees . With such an attitude, it appears that the power department officials passing such orders want to finish Goan greenery and natural tree cover and only after this they will be at peace.
