Power dept should respect the law in letter and spirit

A few days back, the South Goa District Magistrate and RTO booked a truck transporting power poles in a vehicle that it is not supposed to do so.

Despite being penalised, the Electricity Dept with whom the contractor has been appointed to transport such poles continues to do his business by flouting the law.

Looks like such contractors have connections with some high and mighty politicians to circumvent the law.

Another contractor was seen in Siolim transporting electric poles opposite the St Francis Xavier’s High School and the Pre-Primary school this week. The traffic rules can be violated by the Dept but the common man if he does not wear a helmet is not let to go without a challan or greasing the palm of the law enforcer.

Will the RTO or traffic police book this truck owner and will the district magistrate issue a warning to the department and ask them to respect the law in letter and spirit?
