The term pre-monsoon works refers to work done before the onset of the South West monsoon. This includes trimming of trees, cleaning of drains, and maintenance work of electricity among others.
However, it is observed that in various towns the pre-monsoon works is being carried out even when the monsoon season is well and truly on. In the port town of Vasco workers were seen cleaning the drains in heavy rains.
The drains were not cleaned in time even though this year the rains arrived several days late. This led to waterlogging on the roads at several places. It is necessary to clean the drains well before the start of the monsoon season.
