Pregnant?Mapusa authorities don’t care

Just when you thought the story of bad roads and potholes ended with the monsoons, there is another shocker awaiting. Now be prepared for unannounced digging of roads, regardless of how busy the roads are with daily commuters or the inconveniences caused to citizens. Here’s a harsh example of road work taking place in front of a maternity clinic, leaving pregnant women and their families stressed with reaching the gates of the clinic.
Roads are blocked on either ends of the road, thus forcing pregnant women to make it on foot to the clinic, walking over uneven ground, rocky gravel and trekking hills of mud. And the icing on the cake? There is not a soul around getting work done quickly. Is this humane to let a pregnant go through this grief, with the already added discomforts of being an expectant mother? What if she is ready to deliver? Is there clear road signage to reach the clinic comfortably through a detour?
If Goa wants to reach any level of modernity or development, it starts with getting organised. In this situation, there should be prior notice to citizens and oversupply of information providing alternative options. Provide timelines, just like we are forced to comply with timelines to pay our bills or file taxes or any other government work.
There are numerous articles about promoting tourism in Goa and encouraging more visitors to come to Goa. However, what about making citizens live a decent life in the State? It’s about time the government authorities have higher sensitivities towards the residents, and ensure their conveniences come first before catering to outside visitors. God bless all pregnant women expecting anytime soon and going to Mapusa Clinic!
