NAVELIM: Chinchinim Veterans defeated Curtorim veterans 5-3 via the tie-breaker to lift the 5th Navelim Veterans Cup, organised by Navelim Veterans, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Both the teams started off the match with vigour and aimed at scoring the first goal as they went for the kill displaying an attacking style of play.
However after a series of endless attempts at the goal on either sides the end of regulation time saw a 1-1 draw.
Curtorim Veterans Jose Carvalho’s header crashed inside Chinchinim Veterans nets after a well measured corner kick taken by Oliver D’Silva in the 23rd minute.
Seby Faleiro’s long ranger for Curtorim was fisted away by rival goalkeeper in the 29th minute.
Later in the second half, Chinchinim Veterans came from behind to level terms in the 59th minute through Raju Cardozo’s power drive shot.
At full-time the scoreboard read 1-1.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Chinchinim Veterans netted through Mario Soares, Mahesh Lotlikar, Denis Cabral and John Leitao while Jose Carvalho and Oliveira D’Silva scored for Curtorim Veterans.
