At various locations in the State, we come across electricity poles having more than one fixture. At some of the poles, although the LED fixture exists, still the outdated focus lamp exists with great ease. Of course, we come across instances wherein two fixtures function together on one electricity pole.
On the contrary, there are instances wherein many of the poles do not carry even a single fixture which is badly needed for proper illumination on the road during the night. In its absence, the travellers and pedestrians remain to be the ultimate sufferers.
In the process, the very purpose of providing streetlights stands to be defeated. Seen in the picture is one such instance wherein the much needed streetlight fixture has been missing during last several years.
The location is adjacent to the Federal Bank near Rukmini Nagar in Ponda. The pedestrians and travellers have to proceed through darkness at this area during the night. I hope the higher officials at the Electricity Department in Ponda would take a note of this important matter and conduct a survey of the electricity poles at this jurisdiction that do not carry the necessary fixture.
Arrangements should be made to install the same on priority basis before the existing situation in this regard turns from bad to worse. Indeed, public at large must receive proper illumination on the road at all costs. It is also essential that non-functional fixtures existing at some areas are repaired on regular basis.
