BICHOLIM: Locals from Pilgao village in Bicholim have demanded strict action against those littering the main road with garbage.
Heaps of garbage is piled up despite being cleared time and again. According to villagers, they have carried out cleanliness drive 27 times but still the condition has not improved.
“Glass bottles and plastic land in our fields. We try to clear the garbage but some unknown persons dump again,” Ashok Gimonkar, a farmer, said.
The villagers claim that people have rented rooms to migrants and they are responsible for dumping the garbage.
“Villagers have carried out cleanliness drives but it is of no use. They throw garbage in the fields and by the roadside which has also led to depletion in production,” Jayesh Walawalkar stated.
Meanwhile, villagers have demanded with the village panchayat to look into the matter and impose hefty penalty on those involved.
