There has been an acute shortage of water supply to Indira Apartments Co-operative Housing Society at Comba, Margao since November and continues unabated till date.
The Water Department of the PWD has been repeatedly informed about the water crisis on a daily basis through their call centre at Panjim as well as personal visits by society members to their Margao office.

This has been reciprocated by their staff visiting premises to ascertain the cause of shortage which is attributed to low pressure from their end. They have been instructed by the committee members of the Indira Apartments Co-operative Housing Society to check their pressure valves located at different places and take measures to remedy the situation by increasing the pressure which they have failed to do so and insisted that we apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department for road cutting and joining the PVC pipe to their main pressure valve.
The NOC as desired was duly submitted to the concerned department followed by visits to the site by their workmen and Assistant Engineer/Junior Engineer but till date the basic amenity has been eluding the residents of the society. Needless to mention, that most of the residents are senior citizens and some above the age of 70 years, who find it difficult to manage the crisis due to health issues.
The toilets are bereft of water for flushing leaving the flats emanating an obnoxious odour. The water trickles from the PWD main pipe line having restricted timings leaving the overhead tank empty thereby causing scarcity of water even for basic purposes.
With bountiful rainfall during the last monsoon there should not be complacency on the part of PWD to release adequate water supply to the residents which is a basic necessity for survival. We have come across newspaper reports of people taking to the streets to highlight water supply woes in North Goa and before the situation takes an ugly turn in South Goa, the PWD should take proactive measures to remedy the situation.
