This a step in the right direction as several of these trees along the route had uprooted as the trees outlived their time. But it is observed that though these dangerous trees have been cut down, the stubs still exist. This has become a sore sight for the Port Town. Our towns need the green cover. Trees are like the lungs of a city as they provide oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The authorities need to uproot the existing stubs of the trees that have been cut down and plant new saplings of Ashoka trees in their place. It would be nice to replant Ashoka saplings during the ongoing monsoon so that they are watered by rain water and thus grow into strong trees in the future. The Swatantra Path is considered as the most well-planned promenade in the entire state. The promenade needs to be restored to its former glory by replanting Ashoka saplings along the pavement where the old trees have been cut down.
Restore Vasco’s greenery
In the past few days several Ashoka trees along the Swatantra Path in Vasco, which were considered dangerous as they were more than 100 years old, were cut down by the authorities concerned.
