During present times thieves are accustomed to robbing temples situated at different locations. Recently a donation box containing cash of about Rs 70,000/- was stolen from Shree Shantadurga temple at Vaghurme in Ponda. It seems the culprits entered the temple from the rear window by forcefully opening it. Similarly, some burglars entered Sri Sateri temple at Sodiem-Siolim and decamped with an idol and other valuables worth Rs 85,000/-. The thieves broke open the main door and the secured iron gate leading to the sanctorum and fled with the idol, a mangalsutra and a lamp. It is essential for the committee members at the respective temples to initiate precautionary measures to restrict culprits from carrying out such attempts. Installation of CCTV cameras at the temple premises gains great significance in this regard.
