Over the past week or so, Goa has witnessed several road-accidents resulting in many fatalities. There are several reasons for the increase in the number of accidents in the state. One of the reasons could be improper signage. This road sign at Ribandar on the Panjim-Old Goa road is in a dilapidated condition as seen in the photo. The road-sign is meant for the vehicles to take a left diversion as the road bifurcates into two lanes. This bifurcation of the road is just after a sharp turn as one travels from Panjim to Old Goa and is not visible from a distance even though there are small arrows on the board indicating the way to go to Belgaum, Ponda and Old Goa.
Several tourist vehicles pass along this road and the drivers of these vehicles may not be familiar with this mandatory diversion to be taken at the road bifurcation. The other day a tourist vehicle entered the bifurcated road on the wrong side and just missed to hit my car. It is absolutely necessary for the authorities concerned to repair this vital road-sign in order to prevent vehicles entering the wrong side of the bifurcated road?
