Curchorem: The Curchorem people are anticipating a bumpy and slippery roads this monsoon season as the work of laying the underground power cables is in progress and unlikely to complete it before the onset of monsoon.
People have expressed apprehension over the digging work as they feel that the work will continue and would not be able to complete it before the onset of monsoon giving no time to restore the badly damaged roads in Curchorem market and surrounding areas.
Former Councillor of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Manohar Naik said that work has been carried out without any proper planning and responsibility.
“Although the work of undergrounding power cables was tendered and work order was issued before the announcement of Lok Sabha and by-elections by Election Commission of India, the work started during the Code of Conduct in force, knowing that it will not complete before the onset of monsoon. Why it was in a hurry? Asked Naik and said that it is just a waste of public money.
According to Assistant Engineer of Curchorem Electricity Department JNR Swamy, the LT power lines are being laid underground in the area coming under the jurisdiction of Curchorem municipality by spending around Rs 24 crore and the connections would be provided only in market area during the first phase.
When asked whether the roads would be restored before the onset of monsoon, Swamy informed that the estimate has been sent for government approval and it will be cleared only after Code of Conduct is over.”
“We will try to complete the work of underground cabling before the onset of monsoon and once we get government approval, the roads would be restored at the earliest,” he said.
