Several speed breakers along the Panjim-Margao route had been levelled to provide maximum comfort for the BRICS delegates during their sojourn in Goa. Unfortunately, these speed breakers have ‘resurfaced’ in the form of rumbler strips along the road at every bend, corner, school, crossroad, junction and place deemed fit as per the whims of the concerned authorities immediately after the PM’s Goa visit.
These rumbler strips have been laid along the Panjim-Margao highway at almost every 100 metres at certain sections. However, motorists speed over these rumbler strips unhindered as these strips hardly provide any resistance but are only successful in damaging the suspension of the vehicles and causing severe backaches for motorists, especially two-wheeler riders. On the Benaulim- Cavelossim road one can bear witness to the dangerous gigantic hump type speed breakers as the concerned authorities have shown no concern to ensure public safety. Speed cameras on these routes could have been more sensible to check the errant drivers. Otherwise, these obscure speed breakers will only aid tragedy on our unsafe roads.
