The Porvorim-Betim road, right from the Temple to the Gurudwara at Betim is fully littered on either side of the road and it is shocking to observe how the authorities concerned have totally ignored this hillock. Tonnes of waste of every sort is dumped and scattered on this street and the slopes are overflowing with garbage.
The area comes under the jurisdiction of the Village Panchayat of Penha De Franca. They impose a garbage tax from the residents but fail to clear the garbage lying on the streets and hillock creating issues of sanitation and health. All this garbage has completely disfigured the slopes of the hillock and come rains it will flow down to the Mandovi river further polluting the water bodies.
A video of these filthy surroundings was forwarded weeks ago to the Porvorim MLA who is also the Tourism minister. What is the use of having tourism promotions abroad if they do not even consider cleaning up all this mess which gives Goa a bad name? Being a tourism State and in line with Swachh Bharat I request that this whole stretch be completely cleared of all the garbage and mess immediately.
