If the dirty water is not stopped by authorities, then pedestrians fear that the murky water will spill on the Curchorem-Quepem road putting them at risk of water borne diseases

SANGUEM: Social Worker Kristanand Pednekar has bitterly complained of the release of sewage water in the open road side water drain by the side of the main Curchorem Quepem road at Bansai.
Due to the release of sewage water into the open drain, foul stench has started emanating in the area. The road users, particularly pedestrians, are compelled to close their noses while crossing the choked drain full with sewage water.
Pednekar told Herald that if no action is taken to rectify the problem in another few days time than the sewage water will overflow on the main road putting the road users to risk. As of now, the drain is full of mosquitoes and germs and there are possibilities of the open drain spreading water-borne diseases in the locality.
Significantly, the road to Quepem from Curchorem is widely used by the officers working in the health department, municipality and the PWD.
However, the issue of release of sewage water into the open drain has escaped everyone’s attention, alleged Pednekar.
To make matters worse, the area surrounding the open drain has several shops including one that sells vegetable and fruits. However, there have been no complaints over the issue to any authorities.
While on one hand the government vigorously campaigns for ‘Clean India Clean Goa’, it is much ironical as to why the authorities turn a blind eye to the release of sewage water into the open drain at Bansai ward of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council, claimed Pednekar.
