As a general rule, the garbage collection points need to be away from residential areas. However, this is not the case in Vasco where a garbage collection centre is located very close to a residential area next to the Tilak Maidan ground.
There are several buildings, shops and godowns close by. An internal road leads to an area with several houses. People living in the area have to bear with the stink emitting from the garbage bins.
When it rains the leachate from the garbage bins drains onto the road. This can spread vector-borne diseases among the residents. Though, the garbage is collected regularly from the spot, it seems necessary to shift the garbage collection centre to an isolated area.
