The underground cabling work for 11 KV and 33 KV lines undertaken at Sodiem-Siolim has failed to meet expectations besides disrupting water supply in the area.
The lines are required to be placed at a depth of at least one metre from the road surface in some instances are situated directly above water pipelines. This improper placement poses a risk of damaging the water pipelines, potentially leading to severe health hazards.
In many places, the area has been dug up and left exposed thus posing danger to both commuters and pedestrians.
The half-done work could lead to serious accidents. The motive of digging the busy road for cabling work and then abandoning it half-way at the height of the festive season of Christmasis in fact questionable and leaves one to wonder whether this is development or destruction. The village panchayat has to take up the issue with the authorities and fix the road at the earliest. Let better counsel prevail.
