Shopping malls must give top priority to pedestrians safety

The presence of shopping malls in the State is a matter of great pride because of various reasons more importantly because the inner ambience reminds us of Gulf malls and I must say every proper care has been taken except for one thing lacking – safety first of pedestrians.

Undoubtedly, the shopping malls have countless visitors daily coming from far and wide to pay a visit for their memorable shopping experience while others at least for their window shopping.

Recently, I with my family and in-laws had visited a prominent mall to do some shopping and spend some quality time in the food court/children’s play area.  However, stepping into the mall was not an easy game for us altogether because we had parked our vehicles on the other side of the main road and we just wanted to cross the road to be in the mall.

There is a Zebra Crossing just right in front of the mall, however, the motorists would just don’t seem to care to stop by for a few seconds and let pedestrians do the crossing. I wonder how come the concerned authorities have still not realised this shortcoming of installing a traffic signal for the pedestrians to cross the road. Have we knowingly for now closed our eyes to open later only after the occurrence of any tragedy resulting in fatality?

To sum up, it’s high time the concerned authorities take note and initiate immediate steps of installing a traffic signal in front of all shopping malls. Because, all are not lucky enough to get mall basement parking, as a result, some park outside the mall and later confront the herculean task of crossing the road. Consequently, all malls are in dire need of a pedestrian traffic signal to welcome visitors in their realm without any hardship.
