The area around the link road between the villages of Sodiem and Marna in Bancarwado is being used for nefarious activities by anti-social elements. Many youth and some students in uniform have been seen sniffing drugs and drinking alcohol too.
This road is the only link connecting the two villages of Sodiem and Marna and villagers have been using the road for all the movement to and fro. Students too use the road to get to their schools, higher secondary schools and colleges.
But the increasing number of nefarious activities on the road has made the life difficult for commuters and it is leaving an indelible mark on the minds of young children.
The road has become dangerous to travel during the night hours with chaotic scenes by the drunken men and commuters being attacked while crossing the road. Regular booze parties are organised by the anti-social elements, and syringes and broken beer bottles are strewn all around on the road.
The panchayat and the police have turned a deaf ear to the menace inspite of the issue being raised at the Gram Sabha on several occasions. The authorities need to take the matter seriously and crack a whip on the illegalities being carried out on the road. If the nuisance is not nipped in the bud we may have to witness some untoward incidents in these villages. Its time that both the Anjuna and Mapusa police patrol the area and keep anti-social elements at bay.
