So many areas in Panjim city have been taken over by squatters, basically mendicants and somehow the City officials seem to be oblivious to this situation. Exactly, opposite the Panjim market as depicted in the picture there are three generations of a family with all their meagre belongings around them. So also on 18th June Road, the most famous street of Panjim adjacent to the BSNL Office is a family of three generations.
Apparently, they resort to begging or other undesirable activities during the day. The whole area around these families is cluttered with filth and disease causing surroundings. The pandemic which has unsettled so many lives had its toll on the migrants and the marginalised people. Many of the out of State poor and displaced people move into Goa as they feel the rules being lax in Goa, they can settle down in any part of Goa.
Soon many more families will move in and take over corners of different parts of the city. A stern but humanitarian approach is required to be taken by the city officials to rehabilitate these people who are displaced.
