Stray cows have turned into nuisance in Paliem Bastora, Mapusa. Large herds of cows squat in the middle of the road at nights and loiter the streets during the day, often causing inconvenience to commuters and resulting in mishaps and fatal accidents.
At nights, it is even worse in the absence of streetlight speeding vehicles often run over cattle that sit in the middle of the road often killing them. Two wheeler riders are the ones that often fall victim to the stray cattle menace.
The riders often sustain serious injuries by banging into cattle while their vehicles also get damaged. In the morning too commuters are at the receiving end as they try to avoid cattle, cow dung gets splashed on them.
Issues like this often highlighted on numerous occasion in the gram sabha across the state. But the civic bodies have largely ignored the accidents that have occurred due to cattle menace. The government must act tough and impound all stray cattle and send them off to the cattle pounds. The owners who let loose their animals should also be penalised.
