Stray cattle increasing on Curchorem-Sanguem road

Strays feast on the garbage dumped near the Municipal waste dumping ground and later occupy the road putting vehicle riders at risk

SANGUEM: The problem of stray cattle on the main road proceeding to Curchorem from Sanguem is increasing each passing day. With no action coming from the authorities and with no one to disturb them, the number of stray cattle is also on an increasing trend.
While earlier a herd of around five to six cattle were found occupying the road at one spot, the number of cattle squatting at one particular place is increasing to over ten thereby giving nightmares to road users.
The stray cattle on the Curchorem-Sanguem road, particularly at Cacora and near Sanguem court, has increased over the last one year specially due to the open land filling site of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council, which forms a good feasting ground for the stray cattle.
The stray cattle after feasting on the leftovers at the CCMC garbage dumping site come on the main road to rest. While earlier the cattle were seen largely occupying the places at Cacora near Industrial Estate and at Kharkhatighati, since past few days a large number of cattle is now seen occupying the sharp turn at Dando near Petrol pump thereby putting the vehicle riders at great risk.
With the stray cattle occupying major portion of the road, vehicle riders are seen driving their vehicles on the wrong side despite not being in a position to notice the oncoming vehicles. This could lead to accidents taking place in the area.
The citizens have appealed the authorities to tackle the ever increasing stray cattle problem on the Sanguem-Curchorem road before any eventuality takes place.
