Stray cattle menace at Chorao

Stray cattle are frequently seen on Chorao road which is being used by office-goers from Bicholim and Sanquelim, who avail the Chorao-Ribandar ferry services to reach their respective workplaces.
Most of the time, stray cattle are seen in the middle of the roads due to which one needs to frequently horn or get down from their vehicles to drive them away.
In doing so, there is a danger that the cattle might even pounce on the motorists. But can we blame these animals? The owners of these stray cattle neither are least bothered about the safety of these animals nor are they concerned about the safety of the road-users. If they have taken the responsibility of these stray cattle, why can’t they ensure that the cattle are in their respective sheds instead of creating nuisance on the roads? Innumerable accidents have occurred along this stretch wherein buffaloes or cows come running from the nearby fields towards the road thereby endangering the life of innocent people. At night it becomes difficult to notice them and there is every possibility of ramming into them which can prove even fatal.
Last week, a vehicle ran over a cow’s hoof, resulting in a traffic jam. It was a sorry sight to see the cow with its bleeding hoof. Besides, the other cattle moved dangerously towards the people on this road.
The concerned authorities need to look into this menace at the earliest in the interest of the innocent road-users. The owners, who are unable to look after the safety of their cattle and the public, need to be severely penalised.
