Day by day, the dog population is increasing at Shivnagar Oitiyant, Taleigao, causing fear of rabies breakout for residents. Within a locality stretched around 400 sq mts, the number of street dogs at any given time can total between 35 to 40. Many instances have occurred where street dogs have attacked school going kids, motorists, including devotees visiting the temple located in the said locality.
Residents of this locality are having sleepless nights due to constant barking and howling of dogs at night.
With the fear of being attacked by the stray dogs, the children are forced to stay indoors and rarely opt to play outside the house. The residents, who come home late evening or night, are always afraid of an attack by pack of dogs. This is causing lot of anxiety and fear to the residents of this area.
It is high time the authorities look into this matter and take effective measures to control the stray dog population and avoid the spread of rabies.
