At a function of the state road safety week program in Vasco recently, the Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has reportedly informed that a new traffic plan exclusively for Vasco will be implemented after Diwali which would help in streamlining the traffic flow. It must be said that just like in the other cities in the state, the traffic in Vasco has increased by leaps and bounds and this has led to immense traffic congestion within the city.
In order to ease the traffic congestion along the two main roads in the town — the Swantantra path and F L Gomes road, there need to be a corridor road to divert the traffic. The road passing along Khariawada could well be used as a corridor road by diverting some of the traffic entering and leaving the city through this road. If need be and if possible this road could also be widened. The road leads directly to the newly opened bus-stand for the Kadamba shuttle bus service. Hence all shuttle busses could be diverted along this road. This will ease the traffic congestion along the two main roads in the town. The bus-stops for the mini-buses plying to Sada, Mangor Hill and Baina also create bottle-necks near the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building where the motor-cycle taxi stand is also situated. These bus-stops need to be shifted to another location, probably next to the shuttle bus-stop to ease the traffic congestion near the MMC building. All by-lanes joining the F L Gomes road to the Swatantra Path need to be assigned for one-way traffic. The roads are under CCTV surveillance hence all those vehicle which enter through the wrong side of one-way roads need to be booked for traffic violation. Another vexing problem that the city faces is paucity of parking space which also is due to haphazard parking. As the local MLA is also the chairman of Kadamba Transport Corporation, one expects better traffic control in the port town.
Pay parking in Panjim

We, the residents of Panjim are very happy to learn that the CCP is going ahead with pay parking along 18th June and adjacent roads. At present, it is a nightmare for us, since the public park their vehicles in front of our houses. As the parking slots are fully occupied by the shop keepers who park their vehicles from 9am to 9pm, it is difficult to move out our vehicles and when we return it is impossible to get parking in front of our residences.
The parking indiscipline is so chronic that some four wheelers park on the area reserved for two wheelers and even drag the vehicle to the side to accommodate their four wheelers and some of them even park on the footpaths and obstruct pedestrians. I have brought this to the notice of Panjim Traffic Police several times who are very reluctant to act and they say that the fine is negligible to deter them from repeating the offence.
So, pay parking is the only solution and everyone can see how efficiently pay parking at Patto works.
Garbage bins in Aquem

This is to bring to your notice that MMC has started dumping bins in Aquem. On one hand they want to clean the city on the other hand they dump garbage bins.. Also each household is given two bins but the collection is done only from one bin. I wonder as to who does the planning for the MMC.
