Traffic jams a regular feature at Cunchelim-Sodiem junction

This is one busiest internal junctions with one road coming from the Highway with most vehicles coming on to the Siolim-Sodiem road. One of the road goes to Camurlim and the other to Mapusa.

All through the day, there is a heavy flow of traffic. Adding to the confusion  and the agony of the commuters are the other heavy vehicles that come from the highway and moves along the Siolim-Sodiem road on which heavy traffic is banned from 7 am to 7 pm. With the traffic cops conspicuous by their absence here, commuters fend for themselves and are seen getting off their vehicles and clearing the traffic snarls. Commuters, office goers, students and even ambulances get stuck for hours together with no one to control the traffic here.

I also wish to point out that the board which displayed the timings has gone missing for the past few weeks. Cunchelim villagers point an accusing finger to the owners of heavy vehicles. The issue has been constantly debated at the Siolim-Sodiem gram sabha with members vociferously demanding that the board be installed and traffic cops be posted at the site from dusk to dawn. Till date nothing has happened even with the panchayat writing to the Mapusa Traffic cell. Time the authorities wake up slumber and install the board with proper timings depicting the ban for heavy vehicles.
