Hundreds of trees were felled at Goa Velha and Agasaim for highway expansion. Moreover the highway at certain point falls within 200 metres away from shores of bay of Siridao. This is highly ecological sensitive area and the tree loss due to expansion of highway needs to be compensated by planting more trees in the vicinity but ironically there seems to be no action taken.
I wonder if the permission of Forest Department is taken before cutting the trees. If so why the Forest Department failed to implement the replanting of the trees saplings?
Goans respect the social forestry. The monsoons are all set to facilitate the tree plantings. Will the concerned authorities ensure the tree plantings to compensate for loss of trees felled in the name of development?
