Unplanned tarring of roads in Cuncolim

One can observe smile on the face of Cuncolkars, due to recent fresh coat of tar on the roads and the market.

Unfortunately, the unplanned work done shows there was no coordination between the government departments PWD and Electricity, the Municipality and most important the MLA.

With a fresh coat of tar in the market area have increased the risk of flooding in the low lying shops this monsoon, in some parts, the level of the road is one feet above the shop plinth.

Plus tar is carcinogenic, use of cement pavers within the market area would have taken care of the health, drainage and aesthetic look of the market. Most of the internal roads within Cuncolim Municipal Council area are demarcated six-metre width on the Regional Plan, but tarring coat is done at 3-4 metres.

The municipality should have taken initiative to take possession of area left for road widening, increased the road width and shifted some of the electricity poles. In Comba Paricotto Ward too, the roads are in a neglected state. Hope good sense prevails among the concerned authorities.
