Panjim, the capital city of Goa, is not connected to a rail network and the closest railway station is Karmali, situated 15-km away. At one time, this railway station was maintained very well surrounded by the picturesque Carambolim Lake.
But at present, this station is in a dilapidated condition. Except for a small stretch near the entrance, towards both ends of the platforms, one can observe a total neglect with rubbish lying around, absence of bustbins and the surface of the platform is so uneven that passengers find it difficult to navigate their baggage on the surface.
Since this station services the capital city of Panjim, it is all the more obligatory for the railways to modernise and upgrade this station, beautify it, provide trolleys, concretise end to end, have proper lighting and provide other user friendly facilities at the station.
