Whenever I see a postman on a bicycle or foot in my locality, it instantly reminds me of our Bollywood Superstar Rajesh Khanna Ji, who beautifully depicted the role of a postman going door-to-door on a bicycle to distribute letters while singing the much famous song that goes, “Dakiya Dak Laya, Dak Laya”.
Decades later, of course times have changed. We are now living in the age of information technology and our preferred mode of communication is ubiquitously email that reaches the recipient in minutes.
However, in many Indian villages, there are still people who don’t have access to emails while there are others who still prefer to send their registered letters using only government-owned postal services.
On the other hand, we see the delivery boys of a privately owned courier company on a bike performing their door-to- door service. However, the plight of a postman is the same then and now, who is seen performing his duty either on foot or on a bicycle. Are they not worthy of a little upgrade now to perform their services?
Can they not be provided with a two-wheeler by which their work will be done faster?
