Residents have warned of agitation if the councillor of the area doesn’t stop the work and restore the road immediately.
Many residents of Vidyanagar assembled on Wednesday to object the work of the drain. According to the Councillor of Vidyanagar area Sugandha Bandekar the municipality has done an illegal job by cutting a gutter through the main road and has no permission from the authorities for the work.
“The water comes from the adjoining highland and is going towards the lower areas already and causing flooding of residential areas. With this drain the entire water will be sent to the already feared areas and increase the risk of flooding them” Sugandha said.
These low lying areas have always been flooding in the rains and according to locals the problem will worsen if this drain is completed.
“Cutting across the road is a wrong and a faulty method and will cause treacherous results in the future. The Municipality has faltered and is totally illegal and none of the residents in the locality were taken into confidence to do the work,” alleged Shirvoikar from Vidyanagar.
“The impact was not assessed. Similarly it can also be seen that one of the drains in sequence has also been blocked by cement and has been done to favour a building in the vicinity,” told Shirvoikar.
The residents of Vidyanagar have warned of agitation if the drain is not removed immediately.
