With reference to the news item titled “Avoid wastage of power supply” that was published on Citizen Herald page (September 16), it is rather unfortunate that this particular matter has remained neglected till date. In and around Ponda, streetlights are still noticed in working condition even during broad daylight.
Recent week-long observation at various locations (in Ponda) clearly indicates this fact. On September 29, streetlights were found functional at Adpai village at 9.30am, at Gholiwada-Talaulim at 2 pm, near Shantai Niwas at Varkhandem at 2.30 pm and adjacent to Matrushala at Dhavali at 3.40 pm. On September 30, the same were found functional at Gholiwada-Talaulim at 8 am, at Daag area at 8.15 am, near old bus-stand at 8.25 am and in the vicinity of Shree Manguesh Devasthan at Mangueshi at 11.30 am.
On October 1, at 8 am at Kapileshwari, at 8.10 am at Daag, at 8.20 am behind Almeida High School along Khadpabandh Road and at 8.30 am along the internal road behind municipal market at Upper Bazaar.
On October 2, streetlights were noticed working at Adpai at 7.45 am, near Mahalaxmi Temple at Talaulim at 8 am, adjacent to Dadaji Mansion (in the vicinity of Saraswat Bank) at 8.30 am. It was surprising to note similar situation near Dadaji Mansion at 4.45 pm too on this very day. Further, on October 3, streetlights were working at Adpai at 8 am, at Talaulim at 8.15 am, at Daag area at 8.30 am, near Civil Court at 8.40 am. At 1.45 pm too those adjacent to Civil Court were found functional. Similarly, on October 4, at Kasawada near Durbhat at 8.20 am, near Mahalaxmi Temple at Talaulim at 8.30 am and behind supermarket in Ponda at 12 noon.
Above practical instances clearly depict that the Electricity Department has not initiated favourable steps to avoid wastage of power supply.
Indeed, the deteriorating condition in this regard should not worsen further but must improve at all costs.
The higher officials in the department should initiate necessary positive steps to utilise the available power supply and avoid wastage of any sort in days to come.
