We were not allotted a place there: Vendor

The new Mapusa Municipal Market Complex was built on the assurances given to the Goan vendors that they would be accommodated therein. But it turned out otherwise, all the non Goans were given allotments for obvious reason.

We even had our interest represented to the court through our legal representative, but it was turned against us by the powers that be, says an elderly lady vendor recollecting their struggle for their right in the complex.
Amkam thuim zago diunk na, quips in another vendor to emphasise their demand. It is but sad, our own kind in authority deprive the Goans of their right where they ought to earn their daily livelihood.
Now all the Goan vendors sit outside the new complex under the shade of a plastic umbrella, come rain, winter or summer, to sell their local produces and it is here that one hears the gentle voices draw attention of every passer-by, requesting in Konkani: ghe go bai, vhor re baba where most Goans prefer to do their marketing.
