What is happening with electricity?

As residents at a Beach Resort in Candolim, we are frequently subjected to power cuts in the evening often half a dozen times or more. The Resort management must be pulling their hair out in frustration as it’s not good for tourism and a sad reflection on the resort in general. What is happening with the electricity supply? It’s becoming quite intolerable when the cuts occur and you are trying to relax at home having a meal and watching a TV programme of some interest missing huge chunks. My own personal theory is that due to the huge expansion of commercial and domestic properties in the Candolim region, the supply and demand on electricity is too great and the electricity company can’t cope with the extra demand. Another theory of mine is that electricity companies are not properly investing in the demand for electricity within the region. In England if this same problem occurred, electricity companies would be rigorously ‘grilled’ and rightly so by The Parliamentary Energy Select Committee seeking answers into why power cuts are occurring on a regular daily basis. Are daily power supply cuts a normality throughout India or is it more so here in Goa? Power companies cannot hide behind the fact that the lack of investment in power supplies needs urgent attention as it’s not good for the local economy nor peoples’ patience.
