The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) is the oldest road transport system in Goa. The KTCL operates its bus services across the State having more than 1,000 buses. Recently, the KTCL introduced EV buses in collaboration with Hyderabad based company. The AC buses run on battery and have no sound while plying.
Many more EV buses are expected to run which are sound and pollution free with battery operated system having charging stations in Margao and Vasco.
However, the shuttle buses charges Rs 1,047 for monthly pass on Panjim-Vasco route and local pass Rs 735. Normal charge is Rs 30 for diesel run buses and Rs 35 for EV buses. But it’s surprising that if EV bus is boarded by passenger with shuttle service pass holder on Panjim-Vasco route he or she has to pay extra Rs 5 and same EV bus is boarded by local pass holder no extra charges to pay.
It’s surprising that EV buses are introduced to replace diesel operated vehicles whose price varies day to day based on international oil prices and commuters are charged extra for boarding theses buses.
The said buses are preferred by daily passenger going for job because of summer season. Since, the EV buses are not dependent on fuel, charging extra fare from a passenger is extra burden on them.
The KTCL and Transport Department should take some measures to give relief to passengers and pass holders who inspite of paying monthly fare have to pay for travelling in EV buses especially shuttle bus services.
It is not question of Rs 5 but logic behind charging extra for passenger on local EV and shuttle service when buses are not run on fuel.
