The question was rightly asked by Edwin Martins “Why Aadhaar card again?” in your letters to the editor column of March 5, I would further highlight some points.
We fail to understand why the government cannot be planned in undertaking such a simple job. Obviously if you take details for official purpose you would bneed the day, month and year.
Now that the government has realised its mistake (or is it s ploy) that we are made to pay for someone elses mistake.
Imagine the plight of the old and the sick. I have seen sonmany old and people who are forced to have to travel to the crowded centres and spend hours waiting for their turn. Besides, the old and sick have to hire vehicle to transport themsleves to the centre incurring expenses roughly above Rs 1000 which is additional burden to a common man. again, they have to spend on food or refreshment as sometimes the entire day is lost. The time of the family member who accompanies the old and sick is also lost.
Have we also thought of Indians abroad and those working aboard various ships? Sometimes Indians working abroad and those at sea return only after a few years, depending on their contract, what is the way out for them.
We can also look at this from an environment point of view too and how much the issue adds to pollution.
I feel it is a non-eco-friendly approach as people have to make trips to the centre by using their two wheelers and cars etc, thus leading to increase in traffic flow which causes pollution and affects environment.
If the government had appointed agents/representatives who could visit homes and obtain the required data as done at elections time, that would help avoid all inconveniences, save money, and people would gladly pay not only Rs.35 but even more.
The government should ensure that they try to solve the problems of people and not try to create new problems for the people.
