Welcoming the decision of Margao Municipal Council to cancel the trip to Mount Abu, the Taxpayers Citizenry of Margao on Monday said that they stick to their demand for the recovery of the loss of revenue to the council.
For last year’s three festivals namely Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali and Christmas, huge advertisement boards were put up by the councillors, who themselves were part of the decision to hike the fees for temporary advertisements from Rs 25 to 500. However, the RTI information sought by the Citizenry reveals that not a single councillor has paid the applicable charges.
“Our rough estimates suggest that the loss is to the tune of about Rs 1.5 lakh. And this amount needs to be recovered from them. We hope that those concerned will voluntarily compound the matter and pay the applicable taxes. Failure of which we shall approach the competent authority with documentary evidence in the form of photographs and videos of the signages put up erected by them,” the Citizenry warned.
