MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) and the Senior Citizen Federation (SCF) demanded an inquiry into the cause that led to the rejection/invalidation of nearly 2,500 votes cast via postal ballots and absentee ballots.
An official complaint has been filed in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), in this regard.
On Tuesday, while addressing the media persons, the SCM and SCF strongly urged that all the political parties should call for an inquiry into this matter.
They also urged the parties to demand for the verification by checking all the postal ballots and absentee ballots, along with the respective envelopes/declarations to ascertain the facts over this matter.
“These 2,500 votes are among the ones that were cast via postal ballots for the government officials who were on polling duty and secondly, by the senior citizens and handicapped voters’ who were not capable of going to the polling stations,” SCM convenor Savio Coutinho said.
Coutinho revealed that over 3,000 votes of the above mentioned categories, had been rejected.
