Citizens call for replacement of pointy ‘fencing’ at Fatorda’s Damodar Circle

MARGAO: A group of concerned citizens from Fatorda are demanding the immediate replacement of the fencing around Shree Damodar Circle, also known as Dambab Circle, behind Ravindra Bhavan.

While the citizens have no objections to the fencing of the traffic island, they are afraid that the current design is dangerous and could cause harm to commuters.

“The fencing is pointed and located on the edges of the traffic island. Riders or even pedestrians could get badly injured if they fall on the fencing by mistake, or in the case of an accident,” said Cedric, a member of the group.

Milagres Fernandes, another local, appreciated the initiative of the concerned authority in fencing the traffic island but expressed concern over the design of the fencing. “This being a major traffic island, a large number of commuters pass by it during peak hours. Quite often, there is no illumination at the site, and it is difficult to notice the island and the already installed iron fencing,” he stated.

The traffic circle was recently named after Lord Damodar and has been cleaned up and maintained since then. The citizens are urging the

authorities to replace the current fencing design while keeping the safety of road-users in mind.
