MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council is yet again in news and this time for some unusual things, wherein after the Chairperson’s chamber now, the CCTV camera installed in the chamber of Chief Officer was also removed,
resulting in several questions among the citizens and city fathers.
Taking serious note of the CCTV camera being removed from the Chief Officer’s chamber, even the employees of the civic body have raised questions that why only they are being targeted to ensure better discipline when heads
of the Municipality goes scot free.
The CCTV camera installed in the chamber of the Chief Officer has been removed after the taking over the charge by the newly appointed Gaurish Sankhwalkar.
It is pertinent to note that the civic body has spent nearly 2.5 lakh on the surveillance system by installing nearly 32 CCTV cameras, wherein the footage can be monitored from the chambers of MMC Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar and Chief Officer.
One of the reasons for going ahead with the CCTV surveillance was to keep a watch on the staff of leaving early or entering the office late and not completing the tasks assigned to them on time.
However, city fathers and staff of the civic body were in total dilemma when they noticed that the CCTV camera installed in the chamber of the Chief Officer had been removed, soon after Gaurish Shankwalkar took over the charge of the chair.
Expressing frustrations, Councillor Mahesh Amonkar stated that how come the CCTV camera from the Chief Officer chamber has been removed without intimating the council.
“It is better to remove all the CCTV cameras installed in the municipal building if the top officials are not
interested in maintaining the discipline at their level”, he stated.
He is of the opinion that the happenings in the chambers of the Chief
Officer and Chairperson needs to be recorded and monitored.
