MARGAO: Stating that the BJP government is in a confused state, ‘Citizens for Democracy’, a group of prominent citizens on Wednesday strongly objected to the privatisation of the South Goa District Hospital, here.

They have also warned of massive agitation if the government goes ahead with the plans of privatisation of the district hospital.

Addressing a press conference, Elvis Gomes, along with Prashant Naik, Ramiro Mascarenhas and others said that the plans of the government to privatise the district hospital are totally shocking.

“The history of the district hospital is known to everyone. The government should give justification on the plans pertaining to the privatisation of the South Goa District Hospital. In 2020, also there were similar rumours of the privatisation of this hospital, but the people had opposed it with justification,” he informed.

He said that they have nothing to do with private clinics and hospitals.

“Private hospitals are the need but privatisation of the government hospitals is not the need. Health care facilities should be made easily available to the people and it should be free. It is the duty of the government to show concern in giving better health care facilities to the people,” said Gomes.

Gomes, informed that in 2020 after the objections from the people, Minister Vishwajit Rane had himself announced that this issue of privatisation of District Hospital is closed for once and all, but now it seems that his words have no value.

Prashant Naik said that this district hospital should cater the health needs of people residing in the talukas of Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona, but sad to say that this government failed in doing so.
