The protest was held on the backdrop of a 10-year-old girl allegedly being raped at her school in Siolim.
The protestors came out with the catchline ‘When protectors become perpetrators, it’s time to say STOP’. Prominent citizens of the state, like Avinash Shirodkar and Ethel Lobo were also present. They appealed to society to protect the interest of the victim as she belongs to a poor family.
“The motive of the protest is to sensitize people on issues that are threatening the society. We keep complaining about the law-enforcement system and the government for inaction, but we should also understand that equal responsibility lies on the society as whole. We need to stand up for it,” said protestor Rajashree Nagarsenkar.
On August 20, Anjuna police booked a teacher of a Siolim school for allegedly raping a minor girl studying in Std IV.
