Citizens risk lives in the absence of zebra crossing at Ponda Bus Stand

DANGER ZONE: Vehicles on the two-lane main road speed by, disregarding the safety of those attempting to cross the road

PONDA: At the bustling Ponda old bus stand, the absence of zebra crossings poses a grave risk to commuters, students and pedestrians who must navigate the busy thoroughfare. Without designated crossings, vehicles on the two-lane main road speed by, disregarding the safety of those attempting to cross the road.

Although recent road maintenance efforts included hot-mixing and repainting side and divider lines, crucial zebra crossings were overlooked, jeopardizing the safety of those navigating the area. Previously, zebra crossings and barricades were in place to facilitate safe crossing and deter reckless driving near the bus stand. However, their absence now contributes to chaos and confusion among pedestrians.

Vocalizing the community’s concerns, Vishal Fadte of Ponda emphasized the necessity of zebra crossings at the bus stand. “Zebra crossings should be painted at the Ponda bus stand,” he asserted, highlighting the challenges faced by passengers disembarking from buses and attempting to catch connecting ones across the road. “The absence of crossings leads to perilous situations as vehicles speed along the main road,” he continued.

Moreover, Fadte noted the removal of barricades, which were once instrumental in preventing hazardous overtaking manoeuvres. “Authorities should promptly address these safety concerns by reinstating zebra crossings and installing barricades along the median,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding commuters at the Ponda old bus stand.
