MARGAO: The deteriorating condition of the road stretch from Manora-Raia to Nuvem has become a cause for concern among residents and motorists who frequent the stretch. Growing frustration is evident, prompting citizens to issue warnings to both PWD authorities and local political leaders, calling for urgent repairs.
The deplorable state of the road, riddled with potholes and left unfinished on the sides, is not only inconvenient but also poses a significant hazard to public safety. Citizens are now threatening to block the road in protest if the authorities do not take immediate action to address the dangerous conditions that have led to several accidents.
For the past few years, the road stretch from the residence of Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequiera at Raicho Ambo to Khirbhatt at Nuvem has been in a pathetic condition. Motorists are now facing considerable difficulty navigating the road, which has become unsafe for travel. Locals add that recent rains have washed away portions of the road, leaving it dusty and covered in loose stones, causing two-wheeler tyres to skid.
Expressing his frustration, Anthony Fernandes, a local resident, accused the authorities and political leaders of negligence. “Being a local resident, I have been using this stretch of road on a daily basis, and I feel very unsafe while riding a bike. The condition of the road is so pathetic that it is difficult to notice the washed away portion of the road and the potholes. Riding on this stretch at night is hell,” Fernandes told O Heraldo.
Menino Quadros, another resident, pointed out that the rugged road is causing damage to vehicles and compromising motorists’ safety. He claimed that despite several reported accidents on the road over the past months, there has been no sign of repair or restoration.
The only option now is to block the road and force the authorities to take notice, said the locals.
