PERNEM: The water scarcity crisis in Pernem has reached critical levels since November, with certain villages enduring a staggering 15 consecutive days without water.
Although tankers have been dispatched to some areas, there are locations inaccessible due to road conditions where the provision of water remains a challenge.
“For the past four months, residents of Varchawada, Arambol, have been grappling with severe water supply issues. The taps are running dry while water bills are consistently issued on time. Frustrated by the lack of action, residents are demanding a minimum of two hours of daily water supply from the government. If the matter remains unresolved within the next four days, women in the community have vowed to stage a protest, known as the ‘pitcher morcha’, at the PWD Engineering Department,” said Arambol Panchayat member Ranjani Ibrampurkar.
“Even our senior citizens have been forced to draw water from wells for many days now. While water scarcity is a common issue during May, the severity of the crisis we’ve been experiencing since January is alarming. It is imperative for the government to address this situation promptly,” added Ibrampurkar.
