MARGAO: Margao city fathers stayed away from the launching of the sewerage works, even as PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar asserted the Councillors ought to have attended the function given that works totaling Rs 900 crore is being planned in the commercial capital.
Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva said that the government completely ignored him and the city fathers by not even mentioning the name of the first citizen on the advertisement. “Even the invitations sent by the government were received by him and the councillors only around noon, just two hours before the function. Most of the councillors advised me not to attend the function as a mark of protest for ignoring the city fathers and showing disrespect to the civic body,” he added.
The PWD Minister, however, said that the Councillors should have kept aside their egos and attended the function though they received the invitations little late.
