Eleven of the 14 municipal councils will go to polls on Sunday to decide the fate of 594 candidates who have promised their voters the moon, even as political parties are working on the sidelines to ensure win for their chosen ones to gain a psychological advantage for the assembly elections.
The municipal councils of Margao, Mormugao, Pernem, Bicholim, Sanguem, Canacona, Quepem, Valpoi, Mapusa, Cuncolim and Curchorem-Cacora will go for election tomorrow.
Voting will begin at 8 am and conclude at 5 pm and counting of votes will be done on November 1.
According to State Election Commission all preparations for smooth conduct of municipal elections has been completed.
Nineteen polling booths in Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) have been declared sensitive and two election observers have been posted there.
A total of 226281 voters will exercise their franchise.
Of the total 137 wards elections however elections will be conducted for 134 wards as two wards — one each in municipal councils of Valpoi and Mormugao, had candidates elected unopposed whereas election for reserved ward in Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) has been deferred, said the Election Commissioner.
