Civil society criticises CM for asking Tousif to change SIM

VASCO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday came under heavy criticism from people cutting across party and community lines for his remark directing Tousif de Navelim, director of the controversial tiatr ‘Akantwadi Goeant Naka’, to change his SIM card to avoid threatening calls.

“It’s sad that the government and even our Catholic MLAs and ministers have remained mute spectators to the threats received by the tiatrist,” said Leo Fernandes, a senior citizen.
“We used to look upon Parrikar as a ‘no-nonsense man’. But instead of warning anti-socials not to disrupt communal harmony in Goa, Parrikar has surprisingly remained silent and has allowed the situation to go out of hand,” added Fernandes.
Another local Raju Nayak said, “What took us by surprise is that Parrikar directed the tiatrist to change his SIM card to avoid threats. In that case, instead of booking the people who post comments against BJP leaders, Parrikar should ask his MLAs, ministers and even the Central leaders to create new Facebook accounts and discontinue the old ones to avoid controversial remarks from citizens,” said Nayak.
A BJP worker, speaking on condition of anonymity said when their government came to power in Goa, he thought some good things would take place. “But instead of doing any good, it is surprising to see that things are going from bad to worse. We Goans are peace-loving and live in religious harmony.”
